Goodbye, Dear Friend!
Thank you for your willing service through
so many hours of trial and tears.
Thank you for being there to console my baby through
months of growth and change.
Thank you for your gentle comfort
when nothing else could sooth.
You've been with us through endless hours
of car rides, church meetings,
and every night for nearly 140 days.
You have been well loved
and much appreciated,
but the time has come, my little friend,
to find a better way. . .

Today we are, once again, saying farewell to the precious BINK. Previous "adieus" have been said by both Hazel and Lilie - who have both lived through it and been better for it. It is now Elsie's turn. I know a lot of parents love the pacifier. I am just fine with it and, in truth, find it quite a blessing while my babies are little, but there has reached a point in each of my children's development where it's time to give it the BOOT.
That day usually comes right around the time that they start needing it to STAY asleep. When they scream if it falls out in the car or when, in their need to be constantly moving their hands, they keep pulling it out while they're sleeping and then are too little and uncoordinated to get it back in. --- I'm sure a lot of you would tell me, just wait it out and they'll learn to get it back in themselves, but why not just bypass the next 8-20 months of toting a dirty binky around and make the break now?Again, I LOVE the binky when my children are newborns, but it's time. I've found that once abandoning this crutch, my children sleep better through the night and are MUCH BETTER in the car. They are still little enough to learn to console themselves in a relatively short period of time. Elsie took quite a while to fall asleep for her nap this morning, while I rocked her, but for her afternoon nap, she fussed for only about 30 seconds and then calmed right down and fell asleep. Hallelujah! I'm sure we'll have a couple of bumps in the course of the next few days, but I, for one, am happy to say, "Sayonara!"

Good for you. Hannah is still on it. But she is not as interested in it as much as she used to be. She never has it during the day. It is mostly at night. Even then it is not in her mouth long. We will see what goes on. but I am proud of you. I hope she doesn't give you a hard time with it.
LOL! Rachel, you're awesome. I'm reading this with my little Layla on my lap (and we both know she's just a littl older than Elsie) and I couldn't help it. I pulled her BINK out of her mouth! Oh, that's funny. I was just wondering yesterday if I should pull it, or weene her from it. Funny times. Good luck!
i remember baby-sitting hazel overnight on your anniversary. she woke up several times & we'd just put the bink back in. when i got up in the morning, ben was not there. i walked into hazel's room, he had fallen asleep kneeling over hazel's bed holding the bink into her mouth. i think you're making a wise decision!!! love you guys!
That is one of the hardest 'good-byes'. We did it with Tanner about three times. It wasn't that he couldn't do, but WE couldn't do it!!! Good luck and Congratulations on a HUGE accomplishment!
Okay, you inspired me. Kaitlyn's Binks are going away. She only uses them at night to fall asleep and then doesn't need them. But you are right why tote around a dirty germy little binky for months???
Cool. Never thought of that perspective. My babies all loved their binks too. A new way to view things. Thanks.... I'll keep it in mind if Heavenly Father decides we should have another baby someday! ;)
